Oh, Baradar!

They said:
His capture PROVED Karachi was safe haven for Taliban leaders and miltants (funny even then since they were talking of one such person’s capture — some safe haven!)

It was hailed as a great success of CIA/ISI cooperation (funny as they still want us to believe CIA and ISI are enemies working against each other)

We were told by Zahid Hussain/WSJ/Dawn/etc. Baradar was the second-most powerful figure in Afghanistan’s Taliban movement and was more dangerous than Omar

Well now we are told Mullah Baradar has been released under ‘US pressure’

My related posts from back then:
Well talking of “conspiracy” here is a real on: All that talk of Talibanization of Karachi..
(Remember the Karachi Ashura bombings were blamed on them at the time, so now what happens to that? They need to find a new patsy)

And There Goes The “ISI vs U.S. Intelligence” Myth — Updated
(I had maintained this capture was no big breakthrough. Baradar was regularly meeting with ISI/CIA and they just nabbed him during one of these meetings)

Nato giving safe passage to Taliban for talks
LONDON: The commander of Nato forces in Afghanistan, US General David Petraeus, admitted on Friday that western troops had facilitated the safe passage of Taliban leaders to Kabul for talks with the government.

US and International Security Assistance Force (Isaf) troops had helped militant commanders get to the Afghan capital as part of its support for Afghan President Hamid Karzai’s negotiations with the militants, he said.

“There are certain ongoing initiatives in that regard,” Gen Petraeus told an audience at the Royal United Services Institute in central London when asked about the state of negotiations with the Taliban.

“And indeed in certain respects we do facilitate that, given that, needless to say, it would not be the easiest of tasks for a senior Taliban commander to enter Afghanistan and make his way to Kabul if Isaf were not witting and therefore aware of it and allows it to take place,” he said.

NATO on one hand needs a way out of Afghanistan hence the Taliban “links”. The NATO gang has finally realized that Taliban is not going to let them fulfill their ugly dreams in Afghanistan. NATO has learned that their fate will not be different from other superpower trying to subdue the Afghani people.

So NATO is playing a triple game:

    1. On one hand they want contacts with Taliban. Karzai is a willing fool.

    2. On th other hand they want to show that the don’t negotiate with terrorists. At least they are not doing it. It’s the out of mind Karzai destroying the chances of success in Afghanistan.

    3. In their back yards they are still trying to convince their populations that they have succeeded in Afghanistan..if not else then they have “ensured” better education for girls.

What they are preparing and planning for is a less painful exit from Afghanistan 🙂
