“His former archdiocese of Munich has acknowledged that, while he was in charge, it dealt with a suspected paedophile priest by transferring him to a different parish where he went on to commit sex offences against children. The revelation has drawn attention to Benedict’s handling of abuse claims, both when archbishop and later as a prefect of the Vatican office dealing with such crimes, a position he held until becoming pope in 2005.

I bet he is as shocked as Obama and Biden and Hillary on the new Israeli settlements!

UPDATE 2: Regarding the apparent “shock” by Hillary at the new East Jerusalem settlements and resulting “shock” felt/crocodile tears shed by ADL at her criticism, DO NOTE that Hillary chose her words very carefully. She did not say what you believe she said; In her statement she never stated she was against these new settlements, just the timing of them (as apparently it forced Biden to express his “shock”). She said “the announcement of the settlement the very same day the vice president was there was insulting.” 😉

To see undeniable proof of why we are so fvcked up today and how we got here, one doesn’t have to look further than the latest by the honorable Shamshad Ahmad, former foreign secretary. The title alone got my attention (“Obama’s Lost Momentum”) and the contents I thus found were as expected from such a heading. Certainly disappointing coming from one supposedly in the know who is one the the most sought after commentators.

By the way, what was the need to regurgitate something we can find in a thousand publications? Had he anything new to offer than the conventional wisdom? Ziltch! It only shows Shamshad lapped-up every press release issued by Obama PR campaign as if they were ‘wahis’ from above.

Gary Younge of The Guardian writes:

“One year after his election, Barack Obama’s approval rating is lower at this stage than for any US president since Eisenhower. So why has the optimism surrounding his victory disappeared so suddenly?”

Well Gary, you must have been awake with your eyes wide shut, like every one else who bought that “change” cool-aid that you journalists were selling.

But Gary is not alone. There was something almost painful about watching President Barack Obama last week reprising a track from his predecessor’s Greatest Hits when he hosted the leaders of Pakistan and Afghanistan. Just like Bush, Obama invited us to suspend well-grounded disbelief and imagine that Hamid Karzai and Asif Ali Zardari have the intent, much less the capability, to wage a successful war against the Taliban. Then again, there had been something painful even earlier about watching Obama proclaim Afghanistan as “the right war” and expanding the U.S. footprint there, reprising the Soviet experience of maintaining an islet of modernity in the capital while the countryside burns.
